Big Train has Weekend Split.

The Big Train split Great South league action this past weekend, betaing the Columbus Woodbats 4-3 in 10 innings on Friday and losing 2-0 to the Cobb Premier Stars on Saturday. Against Columbus, Rumco Forrester singled home the winning run Friday, giving reliever Nathan Williams the win. Starter Trey Vice gave up just two runs in 8 innings.

On Saturday, Cobb starter Will Scott s truck out 17 batters en route to the shutout. Jacob Simmons worked seven innings in the loss. Steven Grooves went 3-4 with a double

Train Falls to Newnan

In spite of 3 hit performances by Saxton Butler, Chandler Tyree, Keegan Lambeth, and Steven Groves, the Big Train fell 7-8 to the Newnan Braves on Tuesday. The Train plays Columbus on Friday and Cobb on Saturday. Everyone is encouraged to come out and support the team.

Newnan Braves earn wild victory in extra innings

Edmond Sparks to scored the winning run from third on a wild pitch with nobody out in the bottom of the eleventh inning to give the Newnan Braves an 8-7 victory over the Alabama Big Train in a Great South League baseball game played Tuesday night at Northgate High School.
WIth the game tied at 7-7 Sparks and Michael Hollis led off the inning with back-to-back singles and moved into scoring position on a wild pitch thrown by losing pitcher Preston Long with Derek Hooper at bat.
With the infield playing in, the Big Train continued to pitch to Hooper and the plan failed as Long uncorked another wild pitch and Sparks came home with the winning run.
After a 45 minute delay due to lightning, the two teams began putting runs on the board as the Big Train scored a run in the top of the first inning with the Braves tying the game in the bottom of the frame as Justin Jones scored on an RBI groundout to shortstop by Jesse Wierzbicki.
The Big Train regained the lead with a run in the top of the second inning but the Braves came back in the bottom of the frame to take a 3-2 lead.
Brandon Behenna singled and scored the tying run on a double by Colby Wren who moved to third on a groundout to second and came home with the lead run when Sparks grounded out to first.
The Braves added a run in the bottom of the third inning to take a 4-2 lead when Jones reached on a leadoff single and was given second on an interference call on the Big Train first baseman before scoring on a one out single by Zach Farmer.
The Big Train came back in the top of the fourth inning to tie the game as Jose Marin hit a solo home run off reliever Brian Foster and one out later, Keegan Lambuth scored on a single by Saxon Butler.
However, the Braves regained the lead with one out in the bottom of the fifth inning when Wierzbicki hit a 3-0 offering from Nathan Williams over the left field fence.
Foster, who will be attending Southern University of Louisiana in the fall, settled down to pitch a steady game until the top of the eighth when he walked Lambuth to start the frame and one out later would hit Chandler Tyree which prompted his exit as he was replaced by Casey Wilson.
Wilson struggled out of the gate as he hit Saxon Butler to load the bases and allowed a sacrifice fly to right field by Adam Russell that allowed Lambuth to come home and tie the game at 5-5.
The Big Train scored twice in the top of the tenth inning as Lambuth and Tyree reached on singles and Butler' followed with a double that scored Lambuth with the lead run.
Tyree took third on Butler's double and scored on a single to center by Russell who was on the mound to start the bottom of the tenth inning.
Russell didn't last long in the bottom of the inning as he walked Wierzbicki and Zach Farmer in succession before he was replaced on the mound by Long.
A wild pitch moved Wierzbicki and pinch runner Anthony Winbourne into scoring position before RBIs from Behenna and Wren tied the game at 7-7.

Train Wins and Ties on Sunday

The Big Train defeated the Florence Nitro on Sunday and finished the double-header with a rare tie. The game was a non-league game and the Nitro was short on pitching. Both coaches agreed to end the nightcap in a draw.

Big Train Defeats Georgia Stars 10-2

Lincoln, Alabama was the venue as the Alabama Big Train defeated the Georgia Stars of Lagrange, GA, 10-2. Adam Russell belted a 3 run home run, Saxon Butler went 3 for 4 while Byne Gooden had 3 RBI's to lead the Big Train. Trey Vice pitched 6 full innings without giving up an earned run in the contest. The Train plays the Florence Nitro in a non-league double-header on Sunday.

Big Train Downs Cobb 13--1

Chandler Tyree had a 3 run homerun and 4 RBI's to lift the Big Train to a 13-1 victory over the Cobb Premier Stars. Caleb Longshore earned the win for the Big Train.. The Big Train plays Saturday at Clay Chalkville High School.
The Big Train is now 4-2 on the year.

Big Train runs past Newnan

The East Alabama Big Train continue to have the Newnan Braves' number as Trey Vice and two relievers combined on a seven-hitter to come away with a 5-1 Great South League victory Friday night at Northgate High School.
The Big Train evened their record at 1-1 with the win while the Braves fell to 0-2, heading into today's 5:30 p.m. game against the Georgia Stars at LaGrange College's Cleveland Field.
The Stars, who beat the Big Train 7-6 on Tuesday, is comprised mainly of players from LaGrange College with school coaches on the staff.
Pitching dictated the pace of the first three innings as Bryan Blough of the Braves retired nine of 11 batters with five strikeouts and allowing two infield singles while Vice allowed a second inning walk to Brandon Behenna.
The Big Train, who were 5-0 against the Braves last year with four of the games in doubt until the last couple of innings, got on the scoreboard with one out in the top of the fourth inning on the first of two homers by Adam Russell.
Blough surrendered back-to-back singles after the home run but managed to get out of the jam.
Vice got out of trouble as well with two runners on in the bottom of the inning, retiring recent East Coweta graduate Seth Newton on a strikeout.
Blough caught a bad break in the fifth when a strikeout pitch to Russell went to the backstop. Two batters later, he surrendered an RBI single to Byne Gooden and Eric Burdette was brought into the game to relieve Blough.
Burdette surrendered an RBI groundout to make it 3-0.
The Big Train added two more runs in the top of the sixth inning as Burdette surrendered a two-run shot over the left field fence as Russell connected for his second home run.
The Braves averted a shutout in the bottom of the eighth inning when Sparks led off the bottom of the eighth inning with a solo home run over the center field fence.
In the top of the ninth inning, Casey Wilson took over for the Braves and allowed a pair of one out singles before settling down to retire two of the next three batters.
Sparks was 2-for-4 at the plate including the home run while former Northgate Viking Derek Hooper was 3-for-5 in the game.

Big Train off to a Solid Start 2010

As of June 8th, the Alabama Big Train are currently rolling to a 3-2 record. The Train has been led by solid pitching and great hitting. Trey Vice (UAB) got the win against the Newnan Braves by pitching 5 innings, giving up 2 hits and no runs. Nathan Williams (Talladega College) got the win against the Atlanta Royals in relief. Adam Russell (Wallace Hanceville) earned the win in relief in game two against the Royals. Eric Deese of Bevill State is currently batting .619 with 13 hits out of 21 at bats. The Train plays the Cobb Stars on Tuesday.
